The Spectacular Sunrise and Sunset in Nagarkot

While in Kathmandu, Nepal, I was offered the chance to experience and review one of the Nepal tours offered by Be My Guest, an online booking site offering travel tours and packages that covers destinations around the world and??one of the finalists in Channel News Asia's reality TV Show called 'The Startup' which features startup business in the Asian region. Click here to know more about them.

They offered me to experience the 2D/1N hike from Nagarkot to Changu Narayan situated on the east of the Kathmandu Valley. It is a hike to explore the beautiful hills and witness the breathtaking sunrise and sunset in Nagarkot as it crests the snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas. Part of the trek is to visit the Changu Narayan, said to be the oldest Hindu temple in Nepal.

On the day of the tour, their local partner sent their staff to pick us up from where we're staying in Kathmandu. After Bashi, our guide for the whole trips introduced himself, we immediately left the area to catch the sunset in Nagarkot. The car service from Kathmandu to Nagarkot which was included in the tour made the trip more convenience.

Day 1 ' Kathmandu to Nagarkot (Sunset)

On the first day, the itinerary was to travel from Kathmandu to Nagarkot, a mountain village in the Kathmandu Valley where you can see the widest range of the Himalayas thus making this place one of the best spots to experience the amazing sunset and sunrise in the Valley. Just a few minutes after leaving Kathmandu, I immediately noticed that the valley turned from dusty city into the lush and more quiet atmosphere. We asked Bashi of our where about and told us that we're in Bhaktapur. After traveling for almost an hour and a half we reached Nagarkot at around 5 PM, just in time for the sunset.

Nagarkot

There's nothing much to do in Nagarkot but if you want a more peaceful place and enjoy the view of the Himalayas, this is the place to be. The primary reason why people visit this place is because of the views of the Himalayas it offers, most notably the panoramic view of the Langtang range.

Nagarkot

Part of the packaged tour was the accommodation and dinner for that night. We stayed at Peaceful Cottage, one the many places to stay in Nagarkot which offer an amazing view of the snow-capped mountains.

After we settled everything, we immediately went to the viewpoint located on top of the hotel to witness the spectacular sunset. It was a cloudy afternoon so the view was not that clear but nevertheless we were still blown away by the beauty of nature right in front of us.

After enjoying the sunset, we had a wonderful dinner at the hotel's caf??. Bashi explained that we need to wake up the following morning by 6 am to see the sunrise before starting the trek from Nagarkot to Changu Narayan which will take us around 4-5 hours.

Day 2 ' Sunrise (Trek from Nagarkot to Changu Narayan)

The next day, we woke up at 6 in the morning to be at the viewpoint in time and see the sun coming up. Waking early that morning was more than worth it because the sky was clear allowing us to see and enjoy the panoramic view of the Himalayas.

The tour also comes with a free breakfast and we opted to have it at the Veranda to enjoy the view. Bashi reminded us that we have to start the trek by 8 am so after the breakfast we went back to our room and packed our stuff.

Watching the sunset and sunrise were amazing and epic experiences. It feels like that the time stop allowing me to clear my mind from any thoughts.

Watch out for my next post about our trekking experience from Nagarkot to Changu Narayan'
