Five Things I Want To Do in Egypt

October 6, 2013 by Bino 1 Comment

Egypt is one of the places that still sitting on my bucket list. Having more than 5000 years of civilization, it is one of the countries that I'm really dying to see. I remember when I'm still working in the Middle East, some of my Egyptian friends told me that there are endless things to see in their country. They also told me that Egypt boast several archaeological sights and beautiful coastlines.

After doing some research online, I learned that holidays to Egypt definitely combine relaxation with learning and discovery be it a last minute holidays to Egypt or a long planned trip. Though there are so many things to do in this spectacular country, there are certain places I shouldn't miss. Here are the Five Things I Want To Do in Egypt:

Abu Simbel

Abu Simbel Temples are a UNESCO World Heritage Site dedicated to Ramses II and Nefertari. It is located on top of a hill overlooking the Nile. Some says that these temples give the most familiar image of ancient Egypt to the modern world.

Pyramids of Giza & Sphinx

Obviously, this is one of the places that shouldn't be miss. My friends told me that the Pyramids of Giza & Sphinx are one of the best. These perfectly shaped structures leaves everyone in awe and in wonder about how exactly they were made, considering that the ancient Egyptians had no advanced technology to work with. The stunning pyramids made from millions of limestone blocks along with half-human and half-lion Sphinx are really amazing things to see isn't? I would also love to learn the history and the stories behind this magnificent site.

Luxor

Luxor is a city in Egypt and characterized as the “world’s greatest open air museum”. This city is famous for its historical values revolving around the ancient Egypt. This place is teeming with mummies and undiscovered treasures. In fact, there are several temple complex in Luxor dedicated to ancient Egyptian Gods and Pharaohs. Located near Luxor is the Valley of the Kings where bodies of Kings and powerful nobles were placed in tombs. Luxor is also the place where archaeologists found the mummy of Tutankhamen, one of the most famous mummies of all time.

The Nile River

The Nile River is considered to be as the heart of Egypt. Being the most famous river in the country, cruising the river will definitely take you back into over 5000 years of history and give you a infos on how the Ancient Egyptians depends on the Nile river.

Eat Local Foods

One of the best ways to discover something about the place is to know and try what they eat. I was surprised when I learned that Egypt is not only famous for its ancient monuments, culture and revolution, but it is also famous for its great food. Although relying on vegetables, herbs fish, lamb and chicken, Egyptian food definitely caters to all types of palates.

These are just five of the many things to do in Egypt, I’m sure that I’ll see and do more once I get there. '?

You have a very nice site. I went on a 16-day tour of Egypt last year. The highlights of Egypt for me were:
    1) The Nile River Cruise from Luxor to Aswan — The sites along the Nile were simply breathtaking – from the ibis and water buffalos to the many ancient Egyptian temples that we visited (Kom Ombo, Philae, etc)
    2) The Pyramids of Giza, Saqqara and Dashour.
    3) Luxor — Karnak and Luxor Temple, Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut and the Valley of the Kings.
    4) Mt. Sinai and St. Katherine
    5) Ramses Temple at Abu Simbel
