Sarahan is a city situated at an altitude of 2165 meters and located on the Shimla-Kinnaur border in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. Surrounded by valleys, Sarahan offers an exquisite beauty with serenity and tranquility. The valleys are filled with apple and apricot orchards, dense pine trees and different colorful flowers. The Himalayas mountain range which serves as a perfect backdrop and the local houses which are made of small hut with thatched roof make this small town picture perfect.
While in Sarahan, I spotted two big snakes mating in the backyard of the place where we are staying. I also saw various huge birds flying around the sky. It’s an amazing experience because It was my first time to see those kind of animals.
The town ??is also very famous for its ancient Bhimakali Temple, built from layers of timber and stones. According to some locals here, a powerful earthquake struck this town in 1905 and tilted the temple to one side. But it reclined back to its original position after another earthquake struck the town. They also said that there is a secret tunnel inside the temple that leads to nearby village. In 1927, another temple was built beside the existing temple, which houses a 200-year-old statue of Goddess Bhimalkali.
Sarahan is often overlooked by many in the rush to visit the other villages in Kinnaur Valley but I consider Sarahan as one of the most memorable villages I visited. It's a great place to unwind while enjoying the magnificent mountain scenery.
