I always love going away with the whole family, kids, grandparents and more often than not aunts and uncles too. It's one of my favourite things to do and that's probably why I have, for so many years, put up with the drama and hassle that the whole thing inevitably involves. Getting everyone ready together and to the airport on time more often than not becomes a full-scale military operation. The end justifies the irritation though and my family holidays are always fantastic. I have, however often wished for a better start to the holiday and now, apparently, there is one.

??It comes in the form of airport hotels. Not a recent phenomenon I know but I'd always seen them as excessively swanky and luxurious venues for international businessmen, not family holidays. It appears I was wrong. My experience started when I found some discount Manchester airport hotels when I was booking our holiday. I investigated, found one that had the right piece tag and also which looked good (it had a pool and everything) and I booked it. From this point onwards, I've never looked back. Since then our whole family has stayed in a range of Dublin airport hotels and Stansted airport hotels as well as booking a fantastic Gatwick airport hotel and parking package and we've enjoyed it every time.
early morning at Gatwick Airport
??We get to spend the evening before we fly together as a family enjoying all the comforts of a top quality hotel rather than panicking about holiday details. On the morning of the flight there's just a quick and easy transfer after breakfast en-mass where previously, there used to be hours of mad kid-based chaos. It's amazing, all the hassle I used to associate with my family holiday disappears and all I have to do is make a few clicks at holidayextras.com and the initial stress has gone. Obviously the terminal is still a bit of a nightmare but I don't tackle it tired and stressed anymore, but relaxed and head on; nothing can dampen our mood! Our little stay turn good family holidays to great family experiences.
