Everytime I visit Chiang Mai, I always stay inside the old city where the largest concentration of accommodations in town is located. There’s a wide range of options to choose from when looking for a place to stay at in Chiang Mai. From Guest Houses to Five-Star Boutique Hotels, Chiang Mai offers so many alternatives for each type of travelers.
While I am in this part of Northern Thailand, I stayed outside the old city this time as I received a complimentary stay with Dusit D2 Chiang Mai. Dusit D2 is a subsidiary of the Five-star hotel Dusit Thani and Luxury hotel Dusit Princess. This hotel was featured in Conde Naste Traveller’s Annual “Hot List” of top hotels in 2006. One of the major advantages of Dusit D2 Chiang Mai is the location. Although it is not inside the old city, this hotel is strategically located just off the famous Chang Klan road where the night bazaar is.
Upon entering the hotel premises, I immediately noticed the splash of bright orange colors everywhere. I guess their goal for having an orange touch throughout the hotel is to provide a happy and delightful atmosphere. And it works!
I was greeted sincerely by their staff and guided me to the reception area. The receptionist then asked for my passport and asked me to sign a document they use upon check-in. After a few minutes the receptionist gave me the key card for my room. The check-in process was absolutely a breeze.
Staff and Service
The Staffs were always smiling, happy and welcoming. All of them were very attentive without being intrusive.
The room that Dusit D2 Chiang Mai gave me was their Deluxe room with a size of 32 sq.m. located on the 8th floor. It was well appointed with the view of the night bazaar. Sticking to their color scheme, they extended the touch of orange in each of their room.
By the time I enter the room, I immediately noticed the closet because it has a nice door. It also provides a large space where you can put you baggage.
The interior of the room has striking design. It’s amazing how they combined the materials and texture in a modern functional room letting you noticed the space of the room without compromising the serenity of the room. There’s a separate working station in the room if you need to finish some work while you’re on a holiday. The hotel also provides a very comfortable sofa set.
The room also offers panoramic flat screen television with full cable access, DVD player, safety deposit box, tea and coffee maker facilities, complimentary bottled water (replenish daily) and complimentary high-speed internet access throughout the hotel.
The bed is very comfortable matched with equally comfortable pillows. Compared to other hotel that I’ve stayed in, the number of pillows in their room is fewer. This is not a problem though since you can also request for additional pillow of your choice. The exotic and vivid graphic printing of the bed head panel effectively adds a cheerful atmosphere in the room.
The bathroom in the Deluxe room is quite small but well designed. They utilized the size of the bathroom perfectly so you can still move freely while you’re inside the bathroom.
The glass sink perfectly blend in the design of the bathroom and the counter top table was fully stocked with toiletries which are being replenished daily.
The other side of the bathroom has glass-walled so you get to enjoy watching TV while relaxing in the bathtub. If you want a little bit of privacy, they provided venetian blinds over the glass wall but you have to adjust it outside the bathroom.
My room comes with a buffet breakfast. It is being served in Moxie, their restaurant located on the ground floor. Moxie offers a new sense of dining experience with its unique design. The design of the restaurant is pretty simple with nice furniture. What I love in Moxie is the space in between each table, it gives you a bit of privacy while eating.
The choice of foods is a combination of Thai and Western cuisine. The staffs were very attentive and always checking on the items which need to be replenished.
The Mix Bar is also located on the ground floor offering drinks for those who want to enjoy the music being played on the lobby every night. It is decorated with light glows from structured slits on the ceiling and flushing down the columns, making the ceiling look as if it were floating.
Dusit D2 Chiang Mai offers a relaxing experience in their Deverana Spa. For those wanting to do exercise, they also have DFit, a modern fully equipped gym with sauna to help you detoxify your body.
They also offer an outdoor pool located on the mezzanine floor which is also a great place to relax or if you want to enjoy the heat of the sun without leaving the hotel. The pool is open from 7 am to 7 pm.
The hotel also provide safe babysitting and offer an express laundry services while you’re out.
Dusit D2 Chiang Mai is fantastically located for exploring the culture of Chiang Mai. Just off the night bazaar, you can definitely enjoy the shopping every night. If you want to enjoy the serenity of Ping River and if you want to visit The Tha Pae gate where they held the Sunday walking street market, both are just 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel.
