This shot was taken in Sangla Valley in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh in India. I was enjoying the loud gushing sound of water of Baspa River while sitting in one corner of the town’s foot bridge when suddenly a local Kinnauri carrying dry grass on her back passed by the bridge.
Sangla Valley is also known as Baspa Valley since Baspa river flows through this area. Throughout the state of Himachal Pradesh, one may see women carrying pile of grass or woven baskets loaded with apples or tea leaves on their backs. Cutting the grass and carrying it along the roads to their cows at their farmhouse is a daily chore for most of the women in Himachal Pradesh.
