Sikkim Spring Festival

Sikkim was an independent monarchy ruled by kings until 1975, when it eventually joined India, making it the second smallest state in India. Sikkim is located in the Himalayan ranges and the whole state is positioned entirely on a hill bordering Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal and West Bengal, another Indian State. The highest elevation here is the peak of Mount Kanchendzonga, the third highest peak in the world. Most of the Sikkimese worshipped the Mountain since they consider it as the guardian deity of the state. Although Sikkim is now part of Indian territory, foreign nationals who want to visit Sikkim must need to obtain an Inner Line Permit. Gangtok, being the capital city of Sikkim is a great place to enjoy the views of snow-capped mountains, Buddhist monasteries and botanical gardens. While I was in Gangtok, I had the pleasure of witnessing the Sikkim Spring Carnival happened last May 11 -15, 2012. The festival showcases the different folk dances from the different part of this region and hosted simultaneously by four districts of Sikkim state.   Sikkim Spring Festival   According to the Voice of Sikkim’s article dated May 3, 2012 “The event will be especially supported by the Indian Army exhibiting their art, activities was told to media.
