In Britain, the greatest concentration of major attractions is in London. It also boasts four World Heritage Sites. Most of these attractions are free to enter, so there’s nowhere else in the where you can see so much for so little. It’s one of the most significant cities in the world in terms of culture, influence, business, history, entertainment at sheer savoir faire.
London is a thrilling place. So if I would get a chance to visit this city and since I am a travelling on a long term basis, I would definitely get vacation rentals in London and make sure that I’ll go to these three places:
Westminster Abbey is a significant structure and one of the places I want to visit in London. This beautiful gothic church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has been the venue of so many Royal Weddings and Funerals through the years. The most recent was in 2011, for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Kings, Queens, aristocrats, statesmen, poets, priests, heroes and villains are all part of the church’s fascinating history. Many of whom were buried at the Abbey including Charles Darwin and Charles Dickenson. At the church, there is a special Scientists corners which is a home to a memorial for Sir Isaac Newton.
Since 1066, Westminster Abbey has been the nation’s coronation church. Many Kings and Queens, including the present reigning Quenn Elizabeth II, have been crowned on King Edward’s Chair.
London’s Tower Bridge
Without a doubt, London’s Tower Bridge is one of the most recognizable bridges in the world. It’s Victorian Gothic style was influenced by a law that forced the designers to create a structure that would blend harmoniously with the nearby Tower of London.
One of the favorite activities of tourists visiting London is taking photographs of the Tower bridge, but one can also go inside the bridge, where there’s a magnificent view of London between the two bridge towers.
There’s a Tower bridge Exhibition inside the bridge. Visitors can learn about the bridge history and information thru films, photos and other media.
Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament
The official name of the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster is Saint Stephen’s Tower, it is commonly known as the Big Ben, one of most famous landmarks in London. It was constructed between 1843 and 1858. The Palace of Westminster is now better known as the Houses of Parliament.
The clock inside the tower was installed in the middle of the 19th century and the world’s largest by that time. The name Big Ben refers to the clock’s hour bell, the largest of the clock’s five bells. The other four are used as quarter bells.
