One of the famous tourist destinations in Indonesia which attracts travellers from different parts of the world is the Island of Java. And one of the well-known volcanoes in this island is Mount Bromo which is also known as Kawah Bromo. It is one of the most popular attractions in Indonesia.
For adventure enthusiasts, visiting Mount Bromo is highly recommended because the journey to Mount Bromo is an adventure in itself. So if you happen to be in Indonesia, I suggest that have some time to visit Mount Bromo.
Mount Bromo is the highest peak of the island and one of the world’s most active volcano. Another reason why this volcano has become popular all over the world is because it is a volcano inside a volcano and its accessibility. The mountain base actually rises from an old volcanic crater of the mountain known as Mount Tengger.
From Yogyakarta, we book a tour to Mount Bromo before going to Bali. After a long overland journey, we arrived at Ngadisari, a small town on the way to Mount Bromo. We stayed at Yoschi’s Guesthouse which had a very cozy and nice atmosphere with a beautiful landscape and setting. We arrived at 11:00 pm and were up at 3:00 am the following morning to get on our 4×4 jeep going to the viewing point for sunrise.
We were drove in steep winding road, through mud and a vast sandy road before climbing up at Gunung Penanjakan viewpoint, the best point of the whole scene. After climbing up several steps for 15 minutes, I reached the viewpoint terrace. It was very cold and still dark. After waiting for about 30 minutes, I saw a glimpse of sunlight breaking through a cloudy atmosphere. After a while, the cloud moves fast and back to where it used to be. When the sun brightly reached throughout the horizon, the majestic view of Mount Bromo slowly became visible behind the mist and clouds. It was truly and EPIC scene! I was amazed by the beauty of nature that was in front of me and I can’t stop taking picture after pictures. The whole scene was just exceptionally breathtaking. I enjoyed it more because when I was in the viewpoint, it wasn’t overly crowded though there were many tourists.
After the sunrise, some of the spectators went to the crater. As I see it, the journey to the crater is an exciting experience in itself. Because before you reach Mount Bromo’s crater, one needs to get across the sea of sands (Lautan Pasir). You can hire a pony that will take you to the staircase that leads you to the crater’s edge.
The view throughout the journey was really worth the trip and trekking up and down. The sunrise in Mount Bromo is the most beautiful and mystical sunrise I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
